The Netherlands have cruised through to the Quarter Finals and arguably their hardest match was against Australia durung the group stages. They defeated Spain comfortably, got past the Socceroos by a solitary goal, then disposed of Chile in comfortable fashion. Facing Mexico in the Round of 16 they came away with a 2-1 victory to set up a meeting with Costa Rica.

The Dutch have scored a whopping 12 goals courtesy of three goals to Arjen Robben & Robin van Persie, while Memphis Depay also chimed in with a couple of his own.

WON 3 – 1 Uruguay – Group
WON 1 – 0 Italy – Group
DRAW 0 – 0 England – Group
WON 1 – 1 (Pen) Greece – QF

Costa Rica surprised many by finishing on top of Group D, which included strong footballing nations in Uruguay, Italy & England. They defeated the Uruguayans and Italians before drawing with the English to win the group. Costa Rica defeated Greece on penalties in the Round of 16 matches to set up a meeting with the Netherlands in the Quarter Finals.

Brian Ruiz (2), Joel Campbell, Oscar Duarte and Marco Urena have all found the net for Costa Rica during the tournament to date and they have conceded two goals along the way.

Netherlands vs Costa Rica match prediction

Suspension to Oscar Duarte and injury to Roy Charles is not ideal for Costa Rica heading into a Quarter Final match up at the World Cup against an in form, quality team like the Netherlands.

Add the extra-time Round of 16 battle against Greece, and the ensuing penalty shoot out for the Costa Ricans, and the Dutch side will certainly go in the fresher team.

Offensively the Netherlands have many options whereas Costa Rica appear to have limited ability to find the net at this stage of the tournament.

We fancy the Netherlands to be much too good for Costa Rica and expect them to advance to the Semi Finals by a couple of goals.
