Sri Lanka are through to a Semi-Final clash with New Zealand after crushing England by 10 wickets at R.Premadasa Stadium on Saturday.
England made 6/229 off their allotted 50 overs and Jonathan Trott 86 (115) top scored for the Poms while Muttiah Muralidaran 2/54 was best of the bowlers with a couple of wickets.
In reply, Upul Tharanga not out 102 (122 balls) and Tillakaratne Dilshan not out 108 (115 balls) guided Sri Lanka to 231 runs without loss to score the easiest of victories. Read more »

New Zealand have defeated South Africa by 49 runs in their World Cup Quarter Final clash at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
The Kiwis made 8/221 off their allotted 50 overs with Jesse Ryder 83 (121) top scoring for New Zealand and Morne Morkel 3/46 best of the South African bowlers with three wickets.
In reply, South Africa were bowled all out for 172 in 43.2 overs with Jacques Kallis 47 (75 balls) making the most runs and New Zealand bowlers Jacob Oram 4/39 and Nathan McCullum 3/24 taking four & three wickets respectively. Read more »

Australia’s bowling attack wasn’t up to the task as India put them out of the Cricket World Cup with a well earned 5 wicket win at Sardar Patel Stadium on Thursday.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting top scored with a century smacking 104 (118 balls) as the Aussies made 260 runs off their allotted 50 overs.
India in return were put under pressure in the middle of the innings before Yuvraj Singh not out 57 (65 balls) and Suresh Raina not out 34 (28 balls) steadied the ship to guide the Indians to a comfortable victory in the end. Read more »

Pakistan have embarrassed the West Indies with a 10 wicket victory in their World Cup Quarter Final match at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
The West Indies were all out for a pitiful 112 runs in only 20.5 overs with Shivnarine Chanderpaul finishing on an unbeaten 44 (106 balls) while Pakistani bowler Shahid Afridi 4/30 grabbed four wickets.
In reply, Pakistan cruised to victory scoring 113 without loss thanks to Kamran Akmal not out 47 (61 balls) and Mohammad Hafeez not out 61 (64 balls) in just 20.5 overs. Read more »

The weekend round of World Cup matches completed the group stage of the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the quarter finals will commence this week.
South Africa, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and India all scored wins on the weekend over Bangladesh, Australia, Kenya and the West Indies respectively.
Australia’s amazing unbeaten 34 Cricket World Cup matches was broken by Pakistan on Saturday who scored a 4 wicket win at R.Premadasa Stadium and Australia will now have to face India to advance to the semi finals. Read more »

Sri Lanka were far too good for a disappointing New Zealand side winning by 112 runs in their World Cup clash at Wankhede Stadium on Friday
Kumar Sangakkara 111 (128 balls) hit a century for Sri Lanka as they scored 265 for the loss of 9 wickets with Kiwi bowler Tim Southee 3/63 grabbing three wickets for New Zealand.
In reply New Zealand was all out for 153 in only 35 overs with Ross Taylor 33 (55 balls) top scoring for the Kiwis while Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralidaran 4/25 snared four scalps. Read more »

The luck of the Irish proved too good for the Netherlands as they lost to Ireland by 6 wickets in their World Cup match at Eden Gardens on Friday.
The Netherlands scored a very good 306 runs with Ryan ten Doeschate 106 (108 balls) making his second ton of the tournament and Peter Borren 84 (82 balls) chipped in nicely with a great knock for the Dutch.
A century to Paul Stirling 101 (72 balls) kick started Ireland as he combined with fellow opener William Porterfield 68 (93 balls) to produce a 177 run opening stand that was always going to spell defeat for the Netherlands. Read more »

England scored 243 in 48.4 overs to defeat the West Indies who were all out for 225 in 44.4 overs in and exciting World Cup clash at MA Chidambaram stadium on Thursday.
Jonathan Trott 47 (38) and Luke Wright 44 (57) were best of the England batsmen in a top team display while West Indies bowler Andre Russell 4/49 snared 4 wickets for the Caribbean side.
For the West Indies, Chris Gayle 43 (21 balls), Darren Sammy 41 (29 balls) and Andre Russell 49 (46 balls) did best with the bat while James Tredwell 4/48 chimed in with four wickets for England. Read more »
