Samoa, Tonga and Scotland score Rugby World Cup Group wins

An Alesana Tuilagi hat-trick for Samoa helped them to a crushing 49-12 win over Namibia in their Pool D match at Rotorua International Stadium on Wednesday.

Canada was responsible for an early 2011 Rugby World Cup upset when they proved too good for Tonga in their Pool A match, winning 25-20 at the Northland Events Centre after leading 10-0 at one stage of the match.

Scotland defeated Georgia 15-6 with Dan Parks scoring all the points in their Pool B match at Invercargill to claim their second win of the Rugby World Cup tournament. Read more »

Australia, Ireland & South Africa start World Cup campaign with wins

Australia turned it on in the second half Pool C match against a determined Italy side to open their their World Cup campaign with an excellent 32-6 win at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland after being level 6 points apiece at half-time.

In the second Pool C game played yesterday Ireland were forced to work hard to score a 22-10 win against the United States at Stadium Taranaki in New Plymouth.

Host nation New Zealand scored an easy 31 point win over Tonga at Eden Park in Auckland to open the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

In other matches, France beat Japan by 26 points at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, Scotland defeated Romania by ten points at Rugby Park Stadium in Invercargill.
