Algeria will line up against Belgium, Russia and South Korea in Group H at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and making it through to the second round is going to be a big ask for the improving African nation.
Four years ago in South Africa the Algerians finished bottom of their group, although they weren’t disgraced, losing by solitary goals to both Slovenia and the USA, along with a very creditable scoreless draw with England.
Belgium is clearly the team to beat in this group, along with Russia who have many strong players, and it’s fair to say Algeria will be up against it against both of those sides, although they will fancy their chances against South Korea.
Algeria is ranked higher in world rankings than South Korea by FIFA, however the Asians are a tough outfit to negotiate at this tournament with regular appearances beyond the group stage, including fourth at the 2002 World Cup.
A solid World Cup qualifying campaign should have Algeria in good shape for the World Cup but they will find the competition much stronger in Brazil.
Bookies agree and have Algeria outsiders at $2001 to win the 2014 World Cup and $23.00 to win Group H.

World Cup players to watch for Algeria
Valencia’s Sofiane Feghouli is a very skilled player and possesses both pace and an ability to score goals which make him a player to look out for in Brazil.
Algeria captain Madjid Bougherra is central to the Algerian defence and his efforts four years ago in the 0-0 draw with England where he nullfied striker Wayne Rooney shows what he is capable of on the world stage.
Dinamo Zagreb’s El Arbi Hillel Soudani has had a solid season at club level and has no problem finding the net for his country when given the chance, and he will need to take his chances in Brazil.
