Countdown to Brazil World Cup – Group E – Honduras

Honduras is a small footballing nation playing on the biggest stage of them all and they have failed to win a match in their past two World Cup tournaments in 1982 and 2010.

Having said that, four years ago in South Africa they finished bottom of a group that included Spain, Chile and Switzerland, but they only conceded three goals against Spain and Chile, and fought out a 0-0 draw with Switzerland.

While we expect them to finish bottom of this group as well, they are not a team to be taken lightly and are capable of an upset if given the opportunity.

Early 2014 World Cup odds for Honduras have them rank outsiders at $3001 to win the tournament and $21.00 to win Group E.

Honduras World Cup Odds

It’s hard to see Honduras being good enough to get through to the second round against teams of the calibre of France, Switzerland and Ecuador at the World Cup.

The only bet we would consider is the $1.30 about Honduras to finish bottom of this group, although it is a bit short for ours for a team that are definitely no easy beats.

World Cup players to watch for Honduras

The crossing skills of left-back Emilio Izaguirre are high quality and his forays into attacke will strike fear into rival teams, especially with dangerous, tall forwards on the end of them.

Up front the height of strikers Jerry Bengston and Carlo Costly will cause nightmares for opposition defences.

Bengston makes his own luck and can score goals, while the strength and aerial skill of Carlo Costly will make him a handful for defenders in Brazil.
