Ecuador will be playing at just their third ever World Cup after making the 2002 and 2006 tournaments, and they find themselves up against France, Honduras and Switzerland in Group E.
Ecuador qualified for the World Cup despite the sudden and tragic death of star striker Christian Benitez in July 2013 and his number 11 shirt has now been been retired.
A rise in FIFA rankings has seen Ecuador starting to make a presence on the world stage, however they tend to get found out at this level and generally play their best football at home, where their high altitude advantage makes it tough for travelling opponents.
Ecuador’s away form during qualification was below par and their inability to produce a win is definitely a concern heading into the 2014 World Cup.
La Tri will find quality European teams like France and Switzerland a tougher assignment in South America, although one would expect them to beat Honduras to put them in the hunt for the next round.
Early 2014 World Cup odds for Ecuador has them $126 to win the tournament and $5.00 to win the Group E.
Ecuador World Cup Odds
Win the World Cup: $126.00
Win Group E: $5.00
Qualify for next Round: $2.00

Ecuador is certainly a side to watch in Group E because if the planets align they could make a play for one of the top two spots, but we expect France and Switzerland to have their measure when push comes to shove.
If things go their way Ecuador is a slim chance of getting through to the next round and the $2.00 about qualifying for the Round of 16 could be worth considering.

World Cup players to watch for Ecuador
Lokomotiv Moscow’s Felipe Caicedo failed to make his mark at Manchester City in the Premier League but he was Ecuador’s top scorer during qualifying and his physical strength and ball striking skills make him a more than handy asset for his country.
Former captain Walter Ayovi played all games during qualification and his consistency and experience will be invaluable on the biggest football stage of them all.
Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia is now captain of Ecuador and his great ability and leadership will be pivotal to the success of La Tri at the World Cup in Brazil.
