Columbia has fared well in this group and will be expected to make it through to the final 16, just as they did in 1990, especially with the tournament being played in South America.
Of the other three teams, the Ivory Coast has made the group stage for the past two tournaments and will fancy themselves again to advance to the next round, although so too will Greece, who will be aiming to make the group stage as they did in 2010, but scoring enough goals may be their main concern.
Japan also made it to the group stage in the last World Cup and the battle between these three teams for a likely second spot in this group will be on in earnest.
Columbia is a warm favourite to win Group C, while the Ivory Coast is favoured to take the second spot from Japan and Greece, although there is not much between the latter three teams according to punters.

2014 World Cup Group C Teams & Fixtures
Coach: Jose Pekerman
Gun player: Radamel Falcao
Best World Cup result: Last 16 1990
The physical, attacking prowess of Columbia, headed by powerful striker Radamel Falcao, makes them the ones most likely in this group. The Columbians had a comfortable qualification for the World Cup and they have an added advantage with the tournament being played in South America. Defensively they can be worn down and be vulnerable at times, but their inate ability to score goals will take them a long way towards topping Group C and making it to the next round.
Coach: Fernando Santos
Gun player: Georgios Samaras
Best World Cup result: Group stage 1994, 2010
Greece has always been a good defensive side on the world stage but their inability at times to score goals creates plenty of pressure for their forwards. The Greeks are tough to score against at any time, and if they can find the net with a bit more regularity, then they could find themselves in the next round against these opponents.
Coach: Sabri Lamouchi
Gun player: Yaya Toure
Best World Cup result: Group stage 2006, 2010
Buoyed by group stage action in the past two tournaments the Ivory Coast should feel confident of getting to the next stage. Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba are very capable players on the world stage and this creative African side will be a major player in this group.
Coach: Alberto Zaccheroni
Gun player: Keisuke Honda
Best World Cup result: Last 16 2002, 2010
Had a very good tournament four years ago and they qualified in emphatic fashion this time around. They look to have a decent chance of getting through to the next round, if they can gel together at the right time, but a disappointing Confederations Cup performance will be luring in the back of their minds.
