Germany score 3-2 win over Uruguay to claim third place

Germany have defeated Uruguay 3-2 in a very entertaining third place play-off at the 2010 World Cup on Sunday at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The score was 1-1 at half-time before the Germans outscored Uruguay by two goals to one in the second half to snare the victory and claim third place in the tournament.

Played at a frenetic pace early it was Thomas Muller who opened the scoring for Germany when he struck in the 19th minute before Egidio Cavani made it 1-1 on 28 minutes and the game was in overdrive.

In one of the best games of the tournament Deigo Forlan scored his fifth goal of the World Cup just after half time in the 51st minute to give the South Americans the lead at 2-1 and the crowd were certainly lapping up the action.

Germany would make it 2-2 when Marcell Jansen found the net in the 57th minute and both sides kept on the offensive trying to find more goals.

It would be the Germans who would strike the back of the net with only 8 minutes left when Sami Khedira scored what was to be the winning goal.

Deigo Forlan almost pulled off a spectacular equaliser with the very last kick of the match when he took a free kick that hit the crossbar to deny him a second goal and outright leader of the Golden Shoe.

A wonderful match to lead us into the big one on Monday night and Germany win 3-2 over Uruguay.
