Spain beat Germany 1-0 to reach their first ever World Cup Final

Spain have reached their first ever World Cup Final after defeating Germany 1-0 in their Semi-Final match of the 2010 World Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday.

A 73rd minute header by Spain’s Carles Puyol was the difference between the two sides in a game that was completely dominated by the Spaniards.

Germany were never really in the match as Spain dominated possession and never allowed the Germans the opportunity to play their attacking football and it was Spain who created most of the chances in the match.

David Villa was again dangerous for Spain up forward but he never found the score sheet this time and it was Andres Iniesta for Spain who was pivotal in the midfield and provided plenty of offensive drive

Iniesta was easily best player on the field and he is a world class midfielder who showed his class today.

Spain was able to shut down all of the Germany prime movers and with so much possession it was only a matter of time before they put score board pressure on the Germans.

That realisation would come on 73 minutes when an Xavi Hernandez corner would find the head of Carles Puyol who smashed the ball into the net to give Spain the lead and ultimately the victory.

It was only a 1-0 victory for Spain but it could easily have been more for the Spanish and Germany were never in the hunt.
