Germany have comprehensively beaten England 4-1 to make it through to the World Cup quarter-finals after two goals in quick succession in the second half from Thomas Muller put the game beyond doubt and sent England crashing out of the tournament
The youth and skill of Germany overpowered a slow and ageing English side with Wayne Rooney unsighted up forward for England and he finished the tournament without scoring a goal.
The first half heated up after Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski scored goals for the Germans within the first 32 minutes before Matthew Upson pulled one back for the Brits.
A couple of minutes later the score should have been two-all when a Frank Lampard strike clearly crossed the goal line and was disallowed by the referee which added to England’s woes.
England attacked more in the second half and they were twice caught napping when the speed of Germany on the break resulted in two goals to Thomas Muller at the 67th and 70th minute mark and it was goodnight England as the Germans went to a 4-1 lead.
