Portugal absolutely destroyed North Korea with a 7-0 thumping in their second round Group G match of the 2010 World Cup at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on Monday.
A 29th minute goal to Raul Meireles gave Portugal the lead which they held at the break before the Portuguese routed the Koreans with six second-half goals from Simao, Hugo Almeida, Liedson, Cristiano Ronaldo and two from Tiago.
Portugal sit second in Group G with 4 points behind Brazil on six and only need a point against the Brazilians next game to ensure a spot in the next round.
North Korea are now out of contention after their heavy defeat and they cannot make it to the next round without a miracle.
North Korea held their own against Portugal early on and had chances in the match that they could not capitalise on.
The Portuguese always looked menacing and it appeared only a matter of time before they would turn their continued possession into scoreboard pressure.
Portugal hit the lead at the 29th minute mark when a Raul Meireles strike found the net and the score was 1-0.
The game stayed that way until half-time but the second-half would turn out to be a different story for the Asian nation.

Portugal came out running in the second half and it would not be long before they had their second goal.
Simao got on the end of some brilliant work from Almeida and Meireles and slotted the ball home and 2-0 to Portugal.
The floodgates were about to open and Coentrao crossed to find the head of Almeida and the scoreline was 3-0.
Moments later Ronaldo passed a ball through to Tiago who managed to get his shot past the North Korean keeper to have Portugal up 4-0.
Ronaldo was on fire and causing the Koreans plenty of grief much to the South American fans delight.
More goals to Liedson, Ronaldo and a second to Tiago completed the rout and it was 7-0 to Portugal in a clinical display.
North Korea were not as bad as the final score suggested but they were unable to halt the onslaught when it came.

The second half belonged to Portugal and 6 goals in a half of football at the World Cup is special and speaks for itself.
North Korea had a crack and still did when they were well beaten on the scoreboard but they will be bitterly disappointed with their effort here and they were methodically put away in the final 45 minutes.
