Paraguay in easy 2-0 win over Slovakia

Paraguay has proven much too classy for an inept Slovakia with an easy 2-0 victory in their second round Group F match of the 2010 World Cup at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Enrique Vera’s 27th minute goal set up the win for Paraguay before a Cristian Riveros late strike handed the South Americans a comfortable two goal win over the Slovakians in a dominating display from Paraguay.

Slovakia now have just one point from their two games and face an uphill struggle depending on the outcome of the Italy and New Zealand game, while Paraguay have 4 points plus a match with New Zealand to come and are well placed to get past the group stage.

First Half
Paraguay dominated the first half and they were rewarded with a goal to Enrique Daniel Vera just before the half hour.

Vera got on the end of some deft work by Lucas Barrios to beat Slovakian keeper Mucha and put the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead to Paraguay.

Slovakia offered little in the way of a contest and Paraguay were able to control the match and do as they liked.

Paraguay led 1-0 at half-time.

First half rating (Out of 5): Slovakia 2.0 – Paraguay 4.0

Second Half
Slovakia were marginally better in the second half but they still appeared very much out of their depth against Paraguay and were devoid of any creativity whatsoever.

Paraguay sat back a bit in the second half and appeared content with their one goal lead and Slovakia was not troubling them at all so there was not much need for Paraguay to take too many risks.

On 86 minutes a thunderous Riveros strike hammered towards the Slovakian goal giving Mucha no chance, along with his team, as Paraguay put the match beyond reach of Slovakia.

The game ended 2-0 and Paraguay were never in doubt.

Second Half rating (Out of 5): Slovakia 2.0 – 3.5 Paraguay

Match Thoughts

Slovakia showed little imagination in this match and they never in the hunt in any way shape or form and Paraguay made Slovakia look a second rate team very much out of their depth.

Paraguay improved on their good form shown against Italy to totally dominate this match without ever being seriously challenged and they have the team to cause plenty of other sides some concerns should they cross paths.
